Shirodhara is one of the most healing therapies available. Shirodhara calms an overactive mind, soothes the nervous system, reduces stress, anxiety, fear, and mental exhaustion, improves sleep patterns and restores balance to body, mind and soul. This therapy synchronizes brain waves and enhances blood circulation to the brain.

A Shirodhara treatment is deeply relaxing. While reclined comfortably on a massage table and covered with a blanket, warm herbalized oil is applied in a gentle stream over the forehead between the brows and in a rhythmic pattern over the forehead.  This invokes deep rest and release of tension. After the session, you will lay quietly for 10-15 minutes to allow for integration of the therapy. Then, the oil is gently wiped off. You will be provided with a bandana or fleece cap to wear to keep the head covered and warm. Allowing the herbalized oil to remain on the head for a couple of hours is very beneficial. After your session, allow yourself plenty of time for rest and self-reflection.

The effects of this treatment are profoundly soothing. One must experience shirodhara to fully understand its benefits.

*Due to the amount of herbalized oil absorbed into the hair and scalp, an additional $20 charge will apply for very thick or very long hair, as more oil is required to properly and thoroughly administer the treatment.

Kati Basti*
This therapy applies warm herbalized oil on the lower back (sacral or lumbar region) area using a dough dam (flour ring). The warm oil is retained in the dam and reheated as necessary. It is very soothing and is highly effective in relieving lower back and/or abdominal pain. The herbal oil is deeply purifying, builds strength in the muscles and connective tissues, and lubricates the sacral area alleviating pain and restoring flexibility.

Griva Basti*
Simliar to Kati Basti, the dough dam and warm herbalized oil is applied to the cervical region of the neck, bathing the area and relieving any type of chronic pain, including shoulder pain.

Janu Basti*
A treatment for the knee, a dough dam is formed around the knee and filled with warm, herbalized oil to alleviate knee pain and stiffness.

Netra Basti

A therapeutic eye treatment bathing the eyes in ghee. The ghee is retained in the dough dam for approximately 15 minutes on each side. This is a specialized Ayurvedic treatment for the eyes and nervous system.

Some of the benefits of netra basti include: Relieves tension in the eye sockets, improves vision and is helpful for eye strain, dry eyes, and early cateract. It nourishes the nervous system and has a profoundly relaxing effect, improves memory and other mental functions, brings luster to the eyes and face, removes wrinkles and encourages emotional release. It is contraindicated for conjunctivitis, blepharitis, corneal ulcer and glaucoma. Netra Basti is best done when there is no other work or reading to be accomplished for the day. One should relax and allow the eyes to rest, and then drift off into deep sleep.

Basti is intended and recommended to be repeated multiple times to achieve the greatest therapeutic benefit, although 1 treatment alone can be beneficial.

Only the highest quality therapeutic herbalized oils available are used, made in the authentic Indian tradition. There is a direct correlation in quality of oil used and depth of healing experienced. The cost of these oils is reflected in the cost of the therapies.
